Report: Managing risk means managing culture

Managing risk means managing cultureWe asked ourselves a deceptively simple question: “How can companies that work so hard to embed safety still have major incidents?”  From our own experiences and discussions with companies we found that a root cause is often complacency.  This complacency is often a product of the way HSSE is treated in an organisation – having an HSSE function makes it somebody else’s problem! Those companies with the best safety (and usually operational) performance consider the management of risk to be the number one priority for business leaders.  Strong, consistent and continuous leadership drives changes in mindsets, behaviours and the processes for effective safety management.
