Buying and selling assets

Buying or selling a business can be a daunting prospect. Many acquisitions either fail to complete or do not deliver the expected value, while many sales do not achieve the best price, disrupt operations and pose risks associated with trade sensitive information.

At Corven, we are skilled in achieving successful acquisitions and sales on behalf of our clients. We always immerse ourselves in the business being acquired or sold, combining our financial and strategic skills and drawing on our experiences of private equity investments through Corven Ventures. This rare combination of skills enables us to identify the appropriate negotiating strategy and price. It also reassures financial backers that due diligence has been completed.

Benefits of our approach

When working with a client on an acquisition we ensure that:

  • The target business is examined thoroughly and all due diligence is completed
  • Key changes that need to be put in place quickly are identified
  • The pre and post acquisition stages are managed effectively including the development of 90-day action plans

When working with a client on a sale we ensure that:

  • The value of the business is optimised
(We do this by improving the financial drivers upon which the value of a business is measured. For example, a business with profits before tax of €10 million, sold on a multiple of six times, is worth €60 million. We would look for ways to increase profits to, say, €14 million, then sell the business for more. With such significant results, we’re happy to work on a risk/reward basis)
  • We identify the right purchasers or funders to approach and understand their strategies and financial positions

Familiar client dilemmas we address

  • “How many purchasers should we approach when selling our business?”
  • “How do we sell the business without disrupting operations?”
  • “How do we achieve the best price for the business being sold?”
  • “How do we ensure the acquisition strategy works?”
  • “How do we ensure the pre and post acquisition phases?”
